What do cotton nappies, Santa Claus and Paddington Bear have in common?

They are all making an appearance at the first major Baby show in Brighton for five years, and Action Research, has been designated the official charity of the event which is generously sponsored by www.childalert.co.uk the leading child safety internet site.

Action Research is one of the UK’s leading medical research charities and its medical achievements include helping develop the UK’s first rubella and polio vaccines and the medical use of ultrasound scanning.

The Horsham-based organisation believes the Brighton Baby Show is an ideal event to be a part of. John Grounds, Action Research’s director of communications, says: ‘We fund research projects at the cutting edge of medicine, and although our work benefits all ages and sectors of society, the greatest proportion of our grants are focused on children and babies.’

Organised by Babies and Bumps, The Childalert Brighton Baby Show 2000 is taking place on Sunday December 10 at the Corn Exchange. It’s being dubbed as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for parents-to-be, new parents, families, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and those involved with caring for children under the age of five years.

Whilst parents and guardians can meet representatives from local support groups, children can enjoy the free entertainment, which includes face painting, a bouncy castle and Santa.

The show will feature more than 25 local and national exhibitors, selling essential baby products that include cots, prams, bedding and bathing equipment, as well as environmentally friendly baby products such as cotton and laundry nappies.

Throughout Sussex approximately 12,000 babies are born each year, with an estimated 4,000 babies born in Brighton alone. Clare Dryden, Childalert, says: ‘We could not have found a better event to sponsor. It’s guaranteed to be a great day out for all the family and mums and dads across the county.’

The event takes place between 10am and 4pm. Admission of £2.50 for adults includes a free ‘welcome bag’ and entry into the prize draw; under 14s enter free

Action Research launched its Touching Lives campaign this year, which aims to raise £1.5m for vital medical research to benefit children and families across the UK. For more about what they do visit www.actionresearch.co.uk
