font face="Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular" size="2">The first major survey into the childcare needs of employees in the London area takes place next month (June 2002). The survey from the City of London Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership and campaigning charity PARENTS AT WORK, will give a unique insight into the issues surrounding childcare for parents working in London.
Employees can take part by logging onto the Corporation of London's website and taking a few minutes to complete the on-line form at www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/childcare from Monday 13th May 2002 until Friday 24th May. Alternatively they can contact the City of London Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership on 020 7332 1002. All those who take part in the survey will enter a competition draw in which they can win a free week's place for one of their children in one of the City's summer holiday playschemes.
Over 320,000 people come to work every day in the City of London alone and the survey is also intended to gather information from the rest of central London. The survey is being actively supported by Daycare Trust, the national childcare campaign and by those employers who are already members of the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
The results will be published during National Childcare Month in June, when the Daycare Trust will also launch a major MORI survey of the country's leading employers on childcare provision. These two complementary surveys will provide comprehensive information on the needs, issues and problems surrounding childcare in London and will help identify those areas that need to be tackled.
Parents at Work Chief Executive Sarah Jackson says: "Last year, when we asked people working in the City of London about their quality of life, they told us their employers' policies were only part of the picture. Childcare, flexibility at work and public transport all add up to a complex set of needs for today's London family. Please add your voice to ours by taking part in this survey."
