Don’t miss Child Safety Week

Home
The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) has announced that June 18 – 24 is Child Safety Week.

The campaign’s objective is to raise awareness about child safety issues and to encourage organisations and individuals who work with young people, as well as parents and carers, to take direct action in their communities by creating ‘Safety Action Zones’.

CAPT is also encouraging parents and carers to create Safety Action Zones in their homes. As Carol Sherriff, CAPT’s Director, points it: ‘More than one child a day dies as a result of accidents in the UK and millions more attend hospital accident and emergency departments every year because of accidental injuries. It seems that these accidents just happen but, but most can be prevented - often by just taking a few simple actions’.

During the period of the campaign, CAPT will be encouraging parents and carers to go through their homes one room at a time, thinking about possible dangers from a child’s viewpoint. As Carol points out, ‘Making a few simple changes could prevent a nasty accident and trip to hospital.’
